Saving Private Ryan (Miss-en-Scene)
Saving Private Ryan
Miss-en-Scene
0:04 - The angle of this shot is tilted to the side, this shows the effect of disorientation and discomfort.
0:22 - The camera is free hand or connected to a body rig. Doing this makes the audience feel like a soldier looking over at the other landing crafts, this shows some realism to the shot.
0:29 - We can see a hand shaking. This is showing the audience the characters emotion before we can see what the character looks like. We can clearly see that the character is nervous or anxious.
0:55 - Zooming out from the one character to show several more creates a claustrophobic feeling in the image.
2:00 - Showing us several soldiers been mowed down inside of the landing craft shows the audience the bloodbath of the historical event. The shot also been taken inside of the landing craft makes us feel like a soldier that could be shot and killed at any moment.
2:10 - We can see the Allied troops from the gunner bunkers on the beach. However what is different about this shot is we are not looking at them as the enemy, but looking at them from the enemies position. This is why it is an over the shoulder shot and not a POV shot.
2:30 - This is an audio effect. Being underwater, hearing becomes muffled and this feeling is simulated when the soldiers jump over into the water as we see the splashes of soldiers falling into the water.
