First Person Shooter
Halo is a First Person, Sci-Fi, Action, Shooter that is based in the Halo Universe. The game covers most if not all of the general Conventions of an FPS game as well as other genres too. The entire halo series (Minus Halo wars/2 and Halo Spartan Assault/Strike and Halo 3 ODST) Focuses on one character 'The Master Chief' also known as 'Chief'. As the Halo series does this it already covers the Hero Persona as the player is the character Master Chief and is put in the shoes of the hero, the one person that can save the day. The over Conventions this game covers include the Linear Narrative, Good vs Evil, Collectables, Violence and Gore. The Linear Narrative the game follows is the story of The Master Chief as he fights against an alien enemy. The game is a level based game with cutscenes in between each level explaining the story. This is extremely important to a game like this as if there is nothing to explain what is going on the players will get confused and lose interest in what is happening and what they are doing in the game. Good vs Evil is a massive part of the Halo series even in the non linear and other genre Halo games as they all have something in common... Humanity vs the rest of the universe. whether it be Humanity vs The Covenant (An alien race that declared war on Humans for 'Heresy' That's a whole thing that I could get into but it would take to long and then I wouldn't be able to talk about anything else. Another time maybe). Collectables are not a huge thing in FPS games however they do sometimes include them into the game as a little extra for the hardcore gamers that like to explore every inch of the game. Halo does have hidden collectables known as Skulls. These Skulls allow the player to activate a sort of Booster or Handicap when they next play for example there is a Handicap Skull known as the Iron Skull, this skull is considered the ultimate game goal as when activated this Skull turns the game into an extremely difficult time. If the player does in solo the level restarts, however in co-op the price is not that heavy because if one player dies then it set you back to the last checkpoint. Or you have the Famine Skull where the weapons dropped by AI (also known as NPC, Non Playable Characters) have half the ammo originally in them, making the player utilise every weapon carefully.
