Film - Scott Pilgrim vs The World
This film is a romance however if you include sub-genres then it would be classed as an anti-romance film as at the core of the film it is about the character Scott Pilgrim falling in love with the character Ramona Flowers but must fight 7 characters of the film from Ramona's past known as 'the 7 evil ex's' or also known as 'the league of evil ex's'. Throughout the film Scott fights 'the evil ex's' like a video game as it takes many aspects from comic books, arcade games and video game references placed and deliberately put into the film.
The film is filled with intellectual puzzles and visceral pleasures, mainly for the audience that would like to play video games and read comic books in their spare time. However it does have basic fundamentals that any viewer would understand. Intellectual puzzles are for the audience that would play games and read comics as it has many references to video games comic book art styles as well as references to other pop culture films. The visceral pleasures usually are invoked when there is a fight scene or a comical scene taking place. Such as the scene where Scott Pilgrim fights the second evil ex 'Lucas Lee' where Scott knew he wouldn't be able to win the fight so he challenges Lucas to grind the 'Rails of Garbage' down the hill where Lucas is defeated by bailing out, but in between every few seconds it switches from Lucas grinding the rail where you feel excitement back to Scott saying 'wow' in different tones making us laugh.
