LO2 End Test

17/10/19

1) With examples, what are the key differences between Traditional and Digital media?

Traditional media is when a company decides to advertise their product through more conventional and cheaper methods such as posters and merchandising.
An example of this is when a Company like Marvel Studios put up a poster for their latest film.Where as digital media is when the company decides to advertise their product on digital platforms such phones and laptops, this means that any type of advertisement can be viewed on these devices instead of on a poster.
[2/4] This is too brief Zoey. Try to expand on your response with more specific examples.
2) Explain the key differences between above and below the line advertising?

Below the line advertising is more direct and towards a target audience
such as targeted mail advertising or targeted search engine advertisements.Whereas above the line advertising is when a company wants to expand their brand and bring in new audience members.
[1/2] Expand on your BTL response.

3) Explain with examples, TWO ways that products are advertised to audiences in the digital age?

TV adverts are very common for digital advertising as a lot of people watch TV now in the digital age. An example of this is when a company such as Maybelline would advertise their makeup products on TV. Or a company would advertise their product on a social media platform such as YouTube. An example of this is when BMW released a new line of cars and advertised them in a YouTube advert.
[2/6] A good start Zoey. Continue with your line of thinking, focus on “todays” audience in the digital age and how they response to digital advertisement. Provide a range of examples.
Red pen. Not sure how to approach this task as I am struggling to come up with anything.

4) Explain with examples how the distribution of media products and services to the consumer has changed in the digital age?

Media consumption and use of products and services has changed recently as now that the Internet has evolved and nearly everyone has access to it, companies can now sell their product and distribute it themselves to the consumer directly. However distribution companies still exist. With most things these days’ people rarely have to leave their houses to purchase things like food, games, essentials, any product they want really and all of this is because of the Internet. Argos for example now deliver right to your door if you purchase an item online, now this still includes a physical product but you wouldn't have to leave the house as a delivery person would just ask you to sign a release form to obtain your product. However there are some cases where there is no need for human contact at all. Video game companies have partnered with console companies to allow consumers to purchase the right to play the game without a physical copy, some say this is more expensive and they would be right but it costs more because they do not have to accept a loss from distribution.
This shows that distribution has evolved since it first began. People at first had to collect things, but then distribution companies started letting people order products on the phone and allowed people to have items delivered to their door by the post office or a distribution company such as UPS. But as technology and the Internet improved we can now order things online at the touch of a button.
[4/6] A clear understanding of digital distribution. In order to improve your score, go in to more detail about the evolution of distribution and how digital media as affected it. Be specific.

5) Explain with examples, how social media has changed the landscape of advertising to audiences?

Social media has changed the game of advertising in the last 10 years alone but with the constant development of the Internet and social media it is constantly improving.
Now companies can direct their product towards a new generation that was built around technology and the internet, as social media sites allow some companies to advertise their product on their site allowing a new target audience to develop and possibly increase the company profit if that person so chooses to purchase their product. For example I saw a product on the social media site 'Instagram' that can whiten teeth easily and for an affordable price and because that enticed me I bought that product. Now it doesn't mean that the product is always directed towards the person seeing it but that is an above the line advertising strategy. For example I also see adverts on the social media site 'Facebook' but it was a product (It was a doorbell that has a camera that can stream to the owners phone) that could be useful for home owners, now just because I'm not a home owner doesn't mean that I cannot tell people about the product that are but I can do that of my own accord. Digital advertising has changed over the years as advertising as people are becoming more and more interactive with the customers that are looking at that advertisement. Such as snapchat adverts use a photo filter to help promote a film.
[5/8] A good start, but don’t forget to discuss the how digital advertising has changed as a whole, the landscape of it. Expand on the highlighted section with this in mind.
